It is said that Madina Az-Zahra was built to show the power, might and wealth of the caliphate and that its honour demanded such luxury and grandees. Who did they take their example from? The Romans? The Persians? Certainly not from the Prophet (pbuh) nor the rightly guided caliphs.
The ruins were also a playground for Yousuf who enjoyed exercising his legs! In the bottom picture he is in the Plaza de Armas, which is the most restored thing that we got see at the sight...
