Spain 2013, Madina Az-Zahra - The Best Unseen (11.4.13)

From soil samples, biologists were able to find out the exact plants and flowers the city originally had. The same plants have been grown on the current garden. They are still maturing.

Only 5% of the original city is open to visitors but the best bits weren't. The building to the right of the garden houses the Salon Rico, the reception hall of Abd ar-Rahman by his Royal House.

It was closed due to restoration work but judging by pictures from the Internet, it is a most sensual piece of Moorish architecture to rival the Nasrid Palace of the Alhambra.

Madina Az-Zahra definitely needs another visit, perhaps in a couple of decades InshaAllah.
